The four liter container of Seachem Aquavitro Seed Bacteria is a scientifically formulated solution designed to establish a necessary biofilter in freshwater and saltwater aquariums, which in turn eliminates the leading cause of fish death, "new tank syndrome". The formula contains a synergistic blend of aerobic, anaerobic and facultative bacteria that serves to break down harmful waste organics, ammonia, nitrates and nitrites that pollute the tank as well as containing nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria. Unlike many other brands, the Seachem Aquavitro Seed Bacteria does not contain short-lived bacteria that die out quickly and eliminate the overall benefit of the bacterial culture.
